Dallas, Texas, USA, December 19, 2024 - The year 2024 has been a milestone for professional Pickleball, marking the pinnacle in the history of the sport and laying a solid foundation for its continued growth and success in the future.
This season kicked off with a significant merger between the American Professional Pickleball League and the Carvana PPA Tour. On the court, 17-year-old superstar Anna Leigh Waters continued to dominate, wrapping up the season with a 43-3 record for the New Jersey Five, ranking first in the PPA World Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, and earning the MLP Season MVP honors. Argentine Federico Staksrud became the first man to finish the season as the PPA World Men's Singles number one, other than Ben Johns.
Fan enthusiasm for professional pickleball soared in 2024. Over 320,000 fans attended PPA Tour and MLP events, a 40% increase from 2023, and this was also the year when ticket sales revenue surpassed amateur registration revenue for the first time. Meanwhile, more than 27,000 players of all ages and skill levels participated in amateur championships at PPA Tour and select MLP events.
In terms of broadcasting, the MLP and PPA Tour had over 350 hours of national television coverage on channels like fox, cbs, espn, espn2, amazon prime, the Tennis Channel, fs1, fs2, cbs Sports Network. The 24/7 pickleball streaming platform, pickleballtv, amassed over one billion minutes of watch time throughout the 2024 season, with the PPA Mesa Arizona Cup fox national broadcast attracting 501,000 viewers, setting a new record for the highest TV audience in professional pickleball.
Social media engagement was also vibrant, with the PPA and MLP seeing a 40% increase in followers on platforms like instagram, X, facebook and tiktok, and youtube video views increasing by 33% compared to 2023, with a total of over 50 million views.
As the 2025 season of the Major League Pickleball and the PPA Tour kicks off in Daytona Beach, the growth potential of the merged organization is expected to continue to grow exponentially.
